I guess I have a different view on what is owed to me as an American. But then I have a job and have health insurance, so my opinion probably isn’t worth much.
Hope she gets the car sold and things work out.

I don’t look at it as “owed”. It is a part of a legitimately advanced economy . But as Murka also has the worst poverty in the developed world and falters in socio-economic mobility , I guess it is part and parcel with the TEM/bootstrap mentality.
I hope she finds a way to pay the bills without selling a beloved heirloom.
